The Artisans of Hakart
HAKART (Hakart Copper & Brass Manufacturing Inc.) is an old-established family firm, dedicated to the preservation and continuing production of traditional artifacts and new designs from Anatolia.
Hakart produces a wide range of new copper and brass decorative items: housewares, garden furniture, table-ware, and copper kitchen-ware, including hand tin-lined heavy-duty copper utensils for gourmet cooking. Copper has long been recognized for its superior attributes as a material for cooking utensils — strong, ductile, malleable and the best conductor of heat, resulting in attractive, highly-functional products that will last a lifetime.
Today, the company features about 2000 different items in its product range and, in addition, can make items to a customer’s individual specifications. All its products are handcrafted from solid copper and brass discs and plates by specialized artisans using traditional processes, such as hand-hammering and tin-plating. About 80% of Hakart’s production is exported to many different countries across the globe.
Throughout its existence Hakart has sought to maintain and emphasize its roots in Anatolian culture and crafts. It continues to seek out and acquire an eclectic collection of old used copper kitchenware items, wooden and iron decorative items, and earthenware jars from all over Anatolia — which today fill several floors of its building! The copper and brass items may be used as raw materials in new products, or may be offered to customers, along with the wooden and earthenware items.
Around 90 people are employed in the company, including the highly-skilled coppersmiths, who started as apprentices many years ago and now, with years of training and experience, are today’s master craftsmen. This portfolio shows these artisans at work, together with some of their products and acquired Anatolian artifacts.
